Don Borelli Testifies: House Foreign Affairs Hearing on the Growing Risks of al-Shabaab

Washington, D.C. – In the wake of the Kenya shopping mall attack, the House Foreign Affairs Committee convenes a hearing to examine the growing threat of al-Shabaab, the Somalia-based and al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorist organization.

Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA) said in a recent statement that “we’ve known for some time that the al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorist group al-Shabaab remains a threat in the Horn of Africa. Following the recent brutal attack on Nairobi’s Westgate shopping mall, it is critical that the United States and our allies reassess the threat that al-Shabaab poses outside of Somalia and outside the region.”

The Committee questions the witness panel on the extent of the al-Shabaab threat to the interests of the United States around the world and those of our allies. Seth Jones, a former adviser to special operations commanders in Afghanistan and the Pentagon, testifies alongside the Soufan Group‘s Don Borelli as well as several security…
